Homeopathy’s popularity
You might be surprised to know that homeopathy, as well as homeopathic remedies, have been around for upwards of 200 years. However, it's only recently that homeopathy as a form of alternative medicine has really been edging its way into mainstream culture, society and lifestyle. It's almost as though there is a new found interest in anything and everything that is considered "alternative", probably because of the immediate connotations we make that what is "alternative" is often times also "natural".
Advocates, such as those organizations that promote healthy and natural lifestyles, have also contributed to the revival in health and nutrition. There are vegetarianism and vegan groups that promote lifestyles that eliminate animal food and products from our diets, there is a move towards eating locally and eating organically, and the practice of yoga and meditation has moved from specialized studios into the local gyms.
The focus on one's body, the type of food we put into our bodies to fuel them, and the connection between a strong body and a healthy mind is not so farfetched. The notion that our body is our temple may have been considered an "alternative" idea some years ago, but it is a concept that is gaining popularity and is generally accepted in many circles of North American and European life.
As our attention has come to focus on having a fit body to ensure a healthy mind, many people have also come to question the drugs that Western medical doctors prescribe at the bat of an eye. Cough syrups, antibiotics and steroids are ingredients that many pharmaceutical products contain in greater or lesser quantities.
But we know now that some strains of antibiotics, for example, are no longer effective because we have been overexposed to them, meaning that sometimes our immune systems become unreceptive to them because they've experienced them too many times.
Coupling this reality with the notion that our bodies are our temples, it seems appropriate that people are re-thinking what types of medicines they want to swallow. The majority of pharmaceutical medicines come with serious warning labels, and if the medication is not administered correctly, side effects can appear, or worse, dependency.
In this context, homeopathy and homeopathic remedies are gaining popularity. Homeopathy, which is practiced by homeopaths, is a holistic healing process that looks at the individual patient as a whole. It seeks to cure the problem that is manifesting itself in the form of symptoms.
The active ingredients in homeopathic remedies are made from highly diluted plant, animal or mineral substances that are non-toxic, gentle and safe. They do not produce dependencies and they do not create side effects.
For these reasons, homeopathy is once again enjoying widespread popularity just as it did in the early 1800s when it was first discovered by German physician Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopathic remedies received a lot of recognition until the early 1900s when the advances in conventional medicine took flight. However, now – more than a century later – there is undoubtedly a renewed interest in everything that is natural and alternative, and homeopathy and its remedies are again finding themselves on centre stage.

This means that it also harms cells that divide rapidly under normal circumstances: cells in the bone marrow, digestive tract and hair follicles; these results in the most common side-effects of chemotherapy–myelosuppression (decreased production of blood cells), mucositis (inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract)and hair loss.
