Homeopathic Remedies for Acne
Most of us dealt with the onslaught of pimples during adolescence. Where some of us have passed through that phase, some still deal with acne on a day-to-day basis. Acne can occur at any point in life; most often during hormonal shifts. Blackheads and pimples can be a problem on the face, neck, chest and back, where pores can become infected or clogged with oil and dead skin.
Improving the skin's natural resistance to infection is key. Most cases of acne can be easily resolved through proper hygiene and diet. However, some cases are more severe and persistent. If you've tried every product on the shelf, but are looking for a more natural remedy to help heal the skin without harsh chemicals, there may be a cure for you yet.
Acne remedies prescribed by an experienced homeopath have been shown to reduce skin problems significantly. Be prepared to answer questions and to divulge - in great detail - the severity of the acne, if there are any fluctuations and what causes them, and the feelings you have during flare-ups.
The following homeopathic remedies are most commonly used for persistent skin problems and blemishes.
Antimonium tartaricum can be helpful for acne with large pustules which are sore to the touch, with bluish-red marks that remain on the skin after the active infection has gone. The person may be irritable, and have low resistance to illness.
People chilly with clammy hands and feet, easily tired by exertion, and flabby or overweight will benefit from calcarea carbonica. This remedy may also help improve the skin's resistance to infection. People who commonly need this remedy are frequently anxious when overworked, and have cravings for sweets and eggs.
Hepar sulphuris calcareum is used when the skin is easily infected, slow to heal, and painful eruptions like boils appear. It can also help pimples which are very sensitive to the touch and slow to come to a head, and can help with the offensive-smelling pus which may form. A person who needs Hepar sulph is sensitive to cold in any form, usually chilly, and often feels irritable and touchy.
If acne is worsened from eating rich or fatty foods, and aggravated by warmth or heat, pulsatilla can be helpful. It is especially used around the time of puberty, or acne around the time of menstrual periods. The ideal person for this remedy often has a fair complexion and is inclined toward soft emotions and moodiness, feeling worse in warm or stuffy rooms and better in fresh air.
Silicea (also called Silica), is effective for acne along with a general low immune resistance, swollen lymph nodes, and a tendency toward fatigue and nervousness. It also helps with infected spots which are slow to come to a head, and also slow to resolve. Also beneficial for treatment of scarring. The person who needs this remedy is generally very chilly, but tends to sweat at night.
A need for Sulfur is often indicated by itching, sore, and inflamed eruptions with reddish or dirty-looking skin. Itching may be worsened from scratching, and worsened from any form of heat - especially bathing or washing. Individuals who need this remedy often feel the need to give orders and neatness is a low priority.
Make sure to discuss all aspects of your skin with your homeopathic professional. They can have you on the road to clear skin after only a few short visits.
